Welcome to General Music with Mr. Horn

General Music – An Overview General Music is a Cycle course; in other words, the class meets every day for one 10-week marking period The course is based on the Blues – we study its origins and its structure – we perform the Blues

Details Students will learn how to perform the Blues on both piano keyboard and on Classical guitar Performance expectations include being able to play the three basic chords of the Blues on both piano and guitar Students will also improvise blues melodies using the 6-note Blues scale Students will compose and perform their own Blues lyrics

Grading There are three categories under which the student’s grade is calculated: 1.Performance (40%): on piano keyboard, Classical guitar, and singing/chanting 2.Class Work (30%): in-class assignments such as worksheets, computer drill-and-practice assignments, etc. 3.Quizzes and tests (30%)

Blues Lyrics Students will compose and perform their own Blues lyrics

Extra Help Extra help is available by appointment: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after school until 4:00 pm (Late Busses run on those days) Other times may be available; students should feel free to ask

Homework There should be very little homework; most of what we do, we do in class Students who do not finish the assignments during class are asked to finish the assignment at home and hand it in the next day

Looking forward to a fulfilling year of composing and performing the Blues!
