Organization of the Sport of Sailing International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Governing Authority for sailing Uniform set of rules and measurement standards Evolved from the International Yacht Racing Union (IYRU) in 1996 President Paul Henderson (Canadian) Women's ISAF Sailing Committee Canada’s Fiona Kidd is a member of this committee

ISAF Women's Sailing Committee Promotes yacht racing and sailing for women throughout the world Encourages participation by women in all aspects of sailing Maintains liaison as required with Organizing Authorities for events,and women’s committees of Member National Authorities (MNAs) Plans, supports and authorizes any ISAF World Women's Sailing Championships; Review conditions and evaluates any ISAF World Women's Sailing Championships.

Canadian Yachting Association Accountable to the Government of Canada for the Sport of Sailing. Members: Provincial Sailing Associations, their member clubs and other individuals and groups affiliated to the Sport of Sailing (Class associations, Disabled Sailing Associations…) Aim and Focus: Development of Sailing in Canada. Encourage Participation among all boaters in the Canadian Sailing Community, its associations and programs.

CYA Women’s Committee Role: Advocates for the advancement of Canadian women in sailing. Regionally represents women who sail, coach, officiate, organize and support sailing in Canada. Receives and evaluates information about Canadian women and girls who participate in sailing.

CYA Women’s Committee Background: The first national women’s committee was formed in 1970’s by Merrilyn Currie and Rexanne Lugar. First meeting in 1976 at CYA Annual Meeting. In 1970’s and 80’s, no international recognition, funding nor network for Canadian Women Sailors. Fundraising main focus. Key Question: Keeping women interested in sailing during their late teens & early 20’s.
