IMPORTANCE OF COOKING  Cooking makes them soft, tasty and easy to chew and digest. The heat of cooking Kills the germs that can make us sick. More over cooking provides a variety to our meals.  There are different methods of cooking food.

 BOILING : In boiling, the food is cooked by putting it in boiling water. e.g, we boil potatoes, eggs, vegetables, pulses and rice. Boiling can be done in open vessels made of steel, aluminium or brass.

In steaming, the food is cooked by steam. It is done for solid and semi solid food items. Some foods which are prepared by steaming are DHOKLA,PUTTU, IDLI and puttu etc. DHOKLA

Pressure cooking : Pressure cooking is done in the pressure cooker.The food to be cooked is put in the cooker and cooked under pressure. In this process the food get cooked in short span of time.

Frying : It is a process of cooking food in hot oil or ghee.Food can be fried in two ways:  Deep frying  Shallow frying  Difference between the two are as follows:

 Difference between the two are as follows:  In this, more of ghee or oil is used.  It is done in a KARAHI.  Food items cooked by deep frying are Puris, samosa and Pakoras, potato finger, etc.  In this, less of ghee or oil is used  it is done on a tawa or frying pan  Food items cooked by shallow frying are paranthas, and ommelets.

 Baking : In baking, the food is kept in a closed box called oven and the air inside it is made hot by electricity. The food kept inside get cooked by hot air. The food cooked by baking are biscuit, bun, bread, cake etc.

Roasting : In roasting, the food is directly put on the sand or hot fire and cooked. The food items cooked by roasting are channas,, ground nuts, maize, chicken etc.
