Energy Drink Report BY OMAR ABDUL, JACOB BIMBI, AND ZACH CLIPPER

Introduction  Energy drinks are a common commodity among the young people of today, coming in various brands and prices. These energy drinks vary so much it is often difficult to choose a specific brand, let alone flavor, of drink to purchase to fuel your late night study needs. Our hope was to seek out the most affordable drink that also tasted the best according to students on campus as well as show the healthiest for those conscientious of their health. During our study, we assessed that Monster Energy Drink is the favorite among the samplers.

Method  The method used was a single blind taste test of five different energy drinks.  The Drinks were purchased at the 711 ™ located on Oak Street.  Only original flavors of energy drinks brands were surveyed.  Samplers are asked to rate each drink based on four aspects: Taste, Price, Visual Appearance, Caloric Value. Criteria was rated on a 1-4 scale (four being the highest).  A survey was taken to assess the importance of each aspect in order to create a weighted scale.  Whichever drink obtains the highest composite score will be recommended.

Weighted Scale  10 randomly selected people were asked to rate the importance of each of the criteria.  We asked that they rated the importance of taste, price, visual appearance, and caloric value with a 1-10 scale (ten being the highest importance)  The assessment yielded the results on the right.

Individual Criteria Results The Chart on the contains the average score of each of the criteria multiplied by their respective weighted percentage.

Total Scores The chart on the right represents the composite scores of each of the five energy drinks. They are calculated by summing the weight scores of the four criterion.

Conclusion  Based on the assessment, we have concluded that Monster Energy Drink is the overall favorite of samplers. This survey utilized a blind taste test to eliminate bias. Monster Energy Drink obtained a composite score of allowing it to being recommended for energy drink lovers.
