Lessons

Develop regional communication and build capacity Set standards and share best practices Support consistent communication Build regional ownership of the forest governance problems and reforms with an emphasis on the education of future generations

Integrate with other sectors Forest sector has important impact beyond forests, trees and forest products Address social and economic development - this would enable the regional FLEG process to link up with other important social and economic development issues

Work with demand-side measures Demand-side measures against the trade in illegally harvested timber and timber products increase private sector buy-in Create synergies between national TLAS systems and private sector certification schemes in order to avoid unnecessary duplication of efforts

Invest in stakeholder participation and transparent decision-making The quality of stakeholder processes and transparent decision-making will continue to be a focal area of work and discussion in the regional FLEGT process
