Nutrition Sub-Cluster contingency planning 13 May 2015

Scenario Protracted conflict Major offensive may resume in June 2015 Non-state actors may advance in 4 directions (south-west, west, north-west, north) i.e. Mariupol, Artemivsk, Kramatorsk, Kurahovo, Lysychansk, Severodonetsk, Slovyansk 2.5 mln is population estimate for affected people, but agreed that 1.2 mln is most likely (24,000 children U2) Plan is for 3 months (immediate response of 2 weeks)s

Nutrition consequences Increased health and under-nutrition risks due to inappropriate access to water and hygiene services, food supplies

Activities, indicators, targets, budget Advocacy and promotion campaign on breastfeeding and control of BMS distribution – Number of PHC workers trained on IYCF in high risk areas (100) – Number of community volunteers trained on IYCF in high risk areas (100) – Number of information materials distributed to caregivers of children 0-23 months (10,000) Funding required: 25,000 $

Activities, indicators, targets, budget Distribution of the complementary food for children 6-23 months – Number of children 6-23 months reached with complementary food distribution - 15,000 (of 18,000 estimated) – Number of complementary food baskets distributed to children 6-23 months within 3 months – 45,000 – Number of extra pre-positioned complementary baby baskets available in stock at any given time – 8,000 – Number of warehouses in high risk areas – (Mariupol, Kurahovo, Lysychansk or Severodonetsk, Slovyansk or Kramatorsk) - 4 Funding required: 15,000*3*13* ,500*4 = 900,000

Activities, indicators, targets, budget Provision of micronutrients for children and pregnant and lactating women – Number of children 6-23 months reached with MNPs - 15,000 (of 18,000 estimated) – Number of extra pre-positioned MNPs boxes in stock at any given time – 10,000 – Number of information material distributed to caregivers of children 0-23 months (15,000) – Number of pregnant and lactating women reached with MNTs – 12,000 Funding required: 15,000*3*1* , *90/1000*3*18*1.5= 160,000 $
