Bundled Model Proposal: IEEE & Society Membership Roger D. Pollard Past VP, Technical Activities Chair, TAB Ad-Hoc on Society Membership Howard Michel VP, Member & Geographic Activities Member, TAB Ad-Hoc on Society Membership June 2011

Rationale 50% of IEEE members are not engaged with technical community In the past ~7 years, IEEE has lost more members than we have. Retention of members is poor –1% increased retention is worth $200,000 –Spreading fixed costs of membership. Increasing Society membership enables stronger member engagement, esp. Chapters.

Adding a “Technical Home” will likely improve overall IEEE retention - Especially for new Members, the least likely to renew * Does not include Student/Graduate Student Memberships

The plan Society basic membership, preferably e-delivered (at a delivery cost below $2-$3) and designed to a standardized $15 price model. Optional enhanced membership – price & benefits determined by Society. A bundled single basic Society membership will be included with all Higher Grade member renewals. –Students can purchase a half-price basic or enhanced Society No additional IEEE dues increase in first year. Dues transition, if needed, during –Likely $5 and certainly no greater than $15 Protect Societies from changes in dues revenues during

Bundled “Technical Home” is BASIC Society Membership Basic Society Access to Society Discounts ($10-$1100) Access to one Society Digital Periodical (newsletter, Qmag, etc.) Access to Society Website Member Content (if available) Access to Online Community/Information on myIEEE (launch 2012) Enhanced Society Enhanced is priced higher than Basic & prices varies by Society It is not required to be offered May include at the Society’s discretion: –Additional Products –Additional Periodicals Other online content and products
