1. Minoans -island of Crete in Mediterranean Sea -grew wheat, barley, grapes, & olives -skilled woodworkers & metalworkers -ship builders & traders -Nile River Valley -Phoenicians -pirates forced faster & better ships w/2-3 masts -used prow to sink enemy ships -2000BC 1 st important seafaring civilization

2. Men -farmed -fished -served in Navy & Royal Guard

3. Women -household duties -attended sporting events -hunted

4. Sports -boxing -bull leaping -bull fighting -1 st open air arena

5. Cities & Palaces -center of city was a palace -no walls for protection -sea & navy -Knossos -largest city -palace was gov. building, temple, & warehouse -decorated w/frescoes -labyrinth -“House of the Double Ax”
