WHAT IS TRANSCRIBE! ? Transcribe! is computer software that was designed to help people transcribe music from recordings. Transcribe- Learning to play and/or writing out a piece of music using just a recording of the piece. (learning music by ear)

WHY TRANSCRIBE? You want to play a piece of music, but only have a recording of the piece. Transcribing tunes and improvised solos from recordings is very important in the process of learning to play Jazz because: -Ear Training> Improving connection between ear and instrument. -Learning Jazz Improvisation> Learning to improvise by copying the masters. Get Paid to Transcribe> Publishers hire people to transcribe and notate music from recordings.

TRANSCRIBE! FEATURES Reads digital audio files and has a recording feature to convert analog sources (tapes & vinyl) to digital audio. Displays the audio waveform and allows you to scroll around, place markers for sections, measures and beats, and play or loop from any point. “Spectrum” feature displays the strength of pitches from the selected clip of audio in a graph (wavy line) over a keyboard image.

MORE FEATURES Increase or decrease the speed of a selected piece of music without changing the pitch. Change the key of a selected piece of music without changing tempo.
