Aim of Equalities PSA “to address the disadvantage that individuals experience because of their gender, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief”

Context - Comprehensive Spending Review 2007 (CSR07) Total number of PSAs reduced to 30 Each PSA to focus on priority actions for Government These should be stretching but deliverable objectives making clear what public services can do to bring about positive change affecting people’s lives PSA indicators to be: based on reliable data outcome-focused capable of making an impact over the three-year period developed in consultation

Building on previous achievements – gender Women as % of newly self employed people Number of registered childcare places

Building on previous achievements – race Gap between the overall employment rate and the BME employment rate Proportion of BME staff in the Criminal Justice System Probation Staff Police Officers

Objectives reduce the gender pay gap from 12.6 per cent; tackle barriers which are due to gender, disability or age that limit people’s choice and control in their lives; increase participation in public life by women, ethnic minorities, disabled people and young people; reduce discrimination in employment due to gender, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief ; and reduce unfair treatment at work, college or school, and when using health services and public transport due to gender, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief.

Survey Questions – Objective 1 Reduce the gender pay gap from 12.6 per cent Data source: Annual Survey of Hourly Earnings Average hourly full-time wages are calculated on the basis of gross pay, using the answers to questions in section 4 of the Annual Survey of Hourly Earnings.
