HTTP – Hypertext Transfer Protocol o Protocol is just a request to send information o HTTP is the most common o HTTPS – the s means a secure site Sub-domain o Sometimes required o Not always www; not all sites part of the web o www stands for world wide web Domain name o The owner of the address o Name of the web server
Domains Top level domain – what kind of website is it o.com – commercial (business for profit) o.org – organization (most often non-profit) o.edu – educational site o.gov – government site o.mil – military site o.net -- network File names are just pages on that website; not necessary to reach the website
