CRYSTAL SUGGS DR. SIMPSON APES 8 APRIL 2012 Genetically modified organism - Green Revolution

Genetically Modified Organism An organism produced by copying genes from a species with a desirable trait and inserting them into another species APPLICATION  Ligers – lions and tigers mixed

Genotype The complete set of genes in an individual APPLICATION  Everyone has a different genotype because of the unique genes in an individual.

Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI) A measurement of the economy that considers personal consumption, income distribution, levels of higher education, resource depletion, pollution, and the health of the population. APPLICATION  The GPI is usually lower than the GDP

Geographic Isolation Physical separation of a group of individuals from others of the same species APPLICATION  The spotted owl is found in northern, southern California, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico

Geothermal Energy Heat energy that comes from the natural radioactive decay of elements deep within Earth APPLICATION  Many people use geothermal energy to save money

Global Change Change that occurs in the chemical, biological, and physical properties of the planet APPLICATION  The planet becomes polluted from power plants which affects biodiversity and humans

Global Climate Change Changes in the climate of Earth; an aspect of global change APPLICATION  The earth has become hotter due to global warming

Global Warming The warming of the oceans, landmasses, and atmosphere of Earth; an aspect of global climate change APPLICATION  Ice sheets in Antarctica and melting which then decreases the population of fish and polar bears

Gray Water Wastewater from baths, showers, bathrooms, and washing machines APPLICATION  There are larger amounts of gray water in developed countries than in developing countries

Green Revolution A shift in agricultural practices in the twentieth century that included new management techniques, mechanization, fertilization, irrigation, and improved crop varieties, and resulted in increased food output APPLICATION  Application of higher levels of organic fertilizers to increase rice production
