Sicily is in the south of Italy. It is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is home to about 5 million people. The capital of Sicily is Palermo. The highest elevation on the island is Mount Etna volcano. Sicily is divided into nine provinces of Palermo, Catania, Messina, Siracusa, Trapani, Ragusa, Caltanissetta, Agrigento and Enna. The largest rivers are Salso, Simeto, Platani.

In Sicily there is a Mediterranean climate. Winter is short and mild with violent storms, and summer is dry.
