Solids What do you think all of these items have in common? Do they all have mass? Do they all have a volume? What shape is the marble? The clay? All of these solids are formed into a shape. – What if I took the clay and rolled it into a ball? – Does it keep the shape I gave it? – What if I make a lot of smaller pieces of clay out of the ball? – Does each smaller piece keep the shape it is given? Solids are materials that keep their shape when moved from one container to another. Is salt a solid?

Liquids What do you think these liquids have in common? Do these liquids have mass? Do these liquids have volume? What is the shape of the water? The chocolate syrup? Liquids have mass and take up space, but they take the shape of their container

Gas How can we tell that air exists if we can’t see it? Do we breath it? Can you see it’s shape? Air is a gas. Gases takes the shape and volume of its container. Air
