Setting  Boston Harbor, New England  Boston

Giuseppe`s Story  Giuseppe is an Italian violinist, who works for money for his ruthless master, Stephano. He sees no way to escape from him, until he finds the enchanted green violin.  When Stephano learns that Giuseppe has been saving money for a boat ticket back to Europe, he takes it and tries to capture him, but luckily he escapes……. not for long.

Frederick`s Story  Frederick is an apprentice clockmaker, who secretly works to build the world`s most amazing clockwork man, unknown of by his master, Master Branch.  Frederick makes a clock for Madame Pomeroy, and in return she takes him to the operahouse to see and Italian opera.

Hannah`s Story  Hannah`s father used to be a stonemason at a grand hotel, but he soon got a disease that took his speech and strength, so Hannah had to become a maid at the hotel for the cruel Miss Wool. She soon learns of a new mysterious guest, and of a hidden treasure.  The mysterious guest, Madame Pomeroy, decides to hire her as an assistant.

The Final Straw  Stephano finally tracks down Giuseppe, and tries to kill him. But Yakov, Madame Pomeroy`s bodyguard, shoots him and saves Giuseppe.  Madame Pomeroy learns of Giuseppe`s musical gift, and asks if he`ll play for kings and queens around the world. He denies the offer, but asks if she can take him back to Italy. She says “Yes”.

The End  Madame Pomeroy takes Giuseppe home, where he reunites with his brothers and sisters in Italy.  Frederick finally becomes journeyman by presenting the now-finished clockwork man at the guild hall, where Master Branch works.  Mr. Stroop, the hotel`s manager, fires Miss Wool, and asks if Hannah will take her place.
