Symbology Styles Map Book Export

Symbology -Create a unique symbol style. -Create/Use Styles. (.style) -Create/Use Layer files. (.lyr) -Import symbol from another layer. -Import ArcView 3.x Legend files. (.avl)

Styles Collection of predefined colors, symbols, properties of symbols, and map elements that allow you to follow a mapping standard and help promote consistency in your mapping products.

Create a style Layer Properties>Symbology tab>Symbol Selector>Save New symbol saved to current user’s ‘documents and settings’ directory

Style Manager The tool used to create new styles and edit existing ones. The Style Manager displays the contents of all the styles that are currently referenced by the map, and may also contain personal and custom styles that may be used in ArcMap.

Create Stylesheets Tools>Styles>Style Manager>Styles>Create New

Use Styles Layer Properties>Symbol>Category

Layer Files Layer files reference geographic data stored on disk. They can reference most data sources supported in ArcCatalog. Think of them as a cartographic view of your geographic data. They are separate files on disk and have a.lyr extension.

AV 3.x Legend Files Layer Properties>Symbology tab>Import

Map Book Map Books are multi page documents based on a dataset and an index grid representing the pages.

Index Grid The index grid for a map book represents how the dataset should be divided up for plotting at a more workable scale.

Index Grid cont’d The Table Of Contents (TOC) in the Map Book tab will reflect the map pages created for each Index Grid.

Map Book Example Page created for each unique index grid value. *Examples using the COUNTY data layer as an Index Grid.

Export Map Book pages can be exported individually, as an entire series, or selected pages of a series..BMP.EPS.JPG.PDF.TIFF ETC…
