What was the Disciples doing When Jesus Showed Up? It happened this way: 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee (James and John), and two other disciples were together. 3 “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.23

God’s Calling, A Change in Vocation Luke 5:10b … Then Jesus said to Simon (Peter), “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” Matthew 4:19 And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

About what time of day did Jesus show up? John 21:4 Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.

What relationship title did Jesus call his disciples? John 21:5 He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. John 15:14-15 You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

What side of the boat did Jesus tell his disciples to throw the net? John 21:6 He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

We order our lives in ways that embody Christ’s ministry in our families, workplaces, communities, and the world.
