Discrete Mathematics Area of mathematics that deals with the study of discrete objects. Discusses languages used in mathematical reasoning, basic concepts, and their properties and relationships among them. Objects studied in discrete mathematics are countable sets, such as integers, finite graphs, and formal languages.

Discrete Structures foundational material for computer science important material from computer science areas as set theory, logic, graph theory, and combinatorics computer science require the ability to work with concepts from discrete structures

Applications of Discrete Mathematics Game theory mathematics and economics studies situations where players choose different actions in an attempt to maximize their returns. Computer image analysis the quantitative or qualitative characterization of two-dimensional (2D) or three-dimensional (3D) digital images.

Applicatios of Discrete Structures Create and understand a formal proof is essential in formal specification, in verification, and in cryptography Graph theory concepts are used in networks, operating systems, and compilers. Set theory concepts are used in software engineering and in databases.

Why do I have to study Analyze a problem to create relevant recurrence equations or to identify important counting questions. Model problems in computer science using graphs and trees which make it easier. Can handle infinity or large quantity and indefiniteness with discrete mathematics. Concerned with techniques to solve certain types of problems such as how to count or enumerate quantities
