Wales Health Impact Assessment Support Unit Training Course in Health Impact Assessment (HIA) 3 day Residential Course 18 h -20 th September 2012 Gregynog, Powys, Wales Following the highly successful course in 2011 at Gregynog, the Wales Health Impact Assessment Support Unit (WHIASU) is once again offering a 3 day residential course in HIA. The expectation is that having completed the course participants will be able to lead a simple HIA or be a team member in a more complex HIA. The course is very practical and takes the participants through the stages of HIA using a realistic scenario. The course also covers definitions of HIA, links to other impact assessments, stakeholder involvement, collecting qualitative and quantitative data, the use of evidence, logic models, the role of key informants, public engagement and current debates in HIA. Participants will also assess the quality of a HIA. A mixture of didactic teaching and working in small groups is used throughout. The course assumes students have attended a one day introduction to HIA course or have acquired a basic understanding of the principles of HIA. If there is sufficient demand, a pre-course half day workshop will be offered immediately before the 3 day course on Monday 17 th September.

Faculty The Faculty will include: Members of the Wales Health Impact Assessment Support Unit Guest Speakers from HIA and Public Health organisations The Wales HIA Support Unit also offers half day Introduction to HIA courses, which are suitable preparation for the residential course. If there is sufficient demand an Introductory half day pre-course workshop will be held the day before the 3 Day course (17 th ) and is offered at the combined course price. Fees * The course is very competitively priced and the fee includes accommodation and all meals throughout the course. There is a reduction of £150 for those not using accommodation at Gregynog. Discounts are available for those working for public services and the third sector in Wales, organisations who book more than 2 participants and students. Please enquire when booking. For further information on the half day course or residential course contact: Julia Lester; Tel No: ; or Liz Green: Tel. It is held in the Cardiff University Study Centre at Gregynog, near Newtown, Powys in the heart of rural Wales. Gregynog is a beautiful country house set in lovely gardens in magnificent countryside. There is internet access but very limited mobile phone signal and this calm environment allows participants to concentrate undisturbed on HIA. Newtown railway station is 6 miles from Gregynog and taxis to the Hall are readily available for those travelling by train. For more information on Gregynog go to gHall.aspx gHall.aspx
