3 | Presentation title – 00/00/2012 Apprentices in every sector National Apprenticeship Service There are over 250 types of Apprenticeship framework suitable for hundreds of job roles, from Nursing to Graphic Design, Horticulture to Electric Vehicle Engineering. Over 130,000 workplaces in England employ apprentices. More employers are taking on apprentices in several areas of their business.

4 | Presentation title – 00/00/2012 The value of Apprenticeships National Apprenticeship Service 81% of consumers favour companies that employ apprentices 88% of employers who employ apprentices believe that Apprenticeships lead to a more motivated and satisfied workforce. 83% of employers who employ apprentices rely on their Apprenticeships programme to provide the skilled workers that they need for the future 81% of apprentice employers say they make their businesses more productive

5 | Presentation title – 00/00/2012 Apprenticeships in England National Apprenticeship Service Funding from Government for Training costs = 100% age Training costs = 50% age 19+* The apprentice’s wages are paid by their employer Each apprentice must have a registered training provider (which can also be their employer) There are 1,100 providers in England Each apprentice must have an employer and be paid. About 130,000 workplaces in England have apprentices Government funded apprentices must study one of 250 Apprenticeship ‘qualification framework’ areas. Frameworks are currently at levels 2, 3, or 4 and above.

6 | Presentation title – 00/00/2012 Funding Support Small Employer Incentive – Apprenticeship Grant for Employers of 16 to 24 year olds New incentive to encourage small firms that don’t currently employ apprentices to take on a young apprentice aged 16 to 24. This will support up to 40,000 new Apprenticeships. The incentive is for employers with up to 50 (and in some cases up to 250) employees and comprises a payment of £1,500 payable in two stages. Available to small firms in all industries and for Apprenticeships at all levels from April Youth Contract (Job Centre Plus) Part of the Governments ‘Get Britain12 Working Programme’ The Government funds work experience placements with employers (up to 12 weeks) for young unemployed persons aged Work Programme (wage incentives) (Job Centre Plus) New wage subsidy for employers offering a job (for at least 26 weeks) to longer term unemployed individuals, aged from the Work Programme. 160,000 wage subsidies worth up to £2,275 each, for employers who recruit an year old through the Work Programme.

7 | Presentation title – 00/00/2012 The National Apprenticeship Service Founded in April 2009 to offer support to all parties Helps create new Apprenticeship markets Provides support to employers interested in starting Apprenticeship programmes (30,000 since its inception) Informs Individuals, Stakeholders and Partners about Apprenticeships Develops new internet based tools and guides Oversees the growth of the Apprenticeship programme and monitors quality

8 | Presentation title – 00/00/2012 Recruitment Support The National Apprenticeship Service supports you every step of the way… –Call or fill in our online enquiry form. –Our Apprenticeship representative will call to discuss your specific needs. –We will help you identify a suitable training provider. –You confirm the number of current employees and new recruits you want to start an Apprenticeship. –Start the recruitment process. Vacancies are advertised on the Apprenticeship website, where suitable applicants can apply. –You choose your ideal candidates and then your apprentices start.

9 | Presentation title – 00/00/2012 Apprenticeship vacancies Before Av - no consistent national system to bring together employers with Apprenticeship vacancies and potential apprentices Provides a single web-based location for high quality and dynamic information on Apprenticeships for use by: –Employers –training providers –potential apprentices –those providing advice; and –their parents/guardians Provides powerful management information on Apprenticeship recruitment. More than just a “matching system”
