Other possibilities… … or a threat?  Open call for proposals EAC/S05/ Establishment of a European Policy Network of National Literacy Organisations

Intro from the Commission: More than one in five 15-year-olds in Europe, as well as many more adults lack basic reading and writing skills. This makes it harder for them to pursue learning and to find a job, and puts them at risk of social exclusion. Aware of this serious problem, the European Commission has taken action to help improve literacy levels in Europe.

Objectives: The objectives of this network are to:  develop country specific knowledge;  facilitate the exchange of good practice;  implement awareness-raising initiatives;  cooperate with other institutions and organisations working in the field of literacy both at national and EU level to promote effective literacy policies.

Target group:  Associations, foundations, national education authorities and other similar bodies working in the field of literacy;  National literacy centres;  Ministries of education and/or training;  Universities, higher education institutions or research centres working in the field of literacy.

Practicalities  htm  Deadline: Aug 29th  at least 20 LLP participating countries, at least 15 EU Member States.  EU budget : EUR ( )  Contribution from Commission < 75 % of the total eligible costs.

Situation analysis:  Significant overlap, but also differences  Empiric knowledge; 10 – 12 consortia  The role of AL in the future network  Our strategy: ensure representation!

Your task:  Find out who in your country will participate in one of the bids  Find out who would like to be in a bid  Send info to the EBSN’s EC  Let’s make sure there are at least 3 EBSN institutions in the winning bid.
