Using FLIP Video in the Classroom Becky Eeten Nancy Krueger

Goals For Today  Flip Video and how to use  Connections to 21 st Century skills  Uses/examples in the classroom  Other programs to complement  Time to play!!!!!!

How To Use

Using a FLIP Camera  Pros  Small/lightweight  Only needs 2 AA batteries  120 minutes of video  Lasts about 3 hours before changing batteries  Decent video quality  Anyone can use it, including kids-easy to operate  Easy to download into Windows applications (not sure about Apple)  USB arm

Using a FLIP Camera  Cons  Not the best sound quality  More difficult to use with networked computers  Can get better quality cameras for about the same price.

Uses for the FLIP Video cont.  -History reports  -Film students during the first week of school and ask them what their goals are for the year  - Film the progression of fluency  -Film a completed project of a student before you send it home  -Film questions from the class at the beginning of a unit, then film them answering the same questions at the end of the unit  -Capture the excitement of learning from your students

Uses for the FLIP Video cont.  -Capture hands-on learning - put clips together for a full-year video  -Bring the outside world in  - Conduct a picture scavenger hunt  -Film special guests and presenters  -Create a video time capsule  -Capture highlights from special events or field trips  -Make a video of playground rules, lunchroom rules, classroom rules etc., and show to new students
