What Is This Place? A Science Museum in a Classroom at Kyrene del Cielo Elementary School in Chandler, AZ

Discovery Room What ARE We? A place where kids can PLAY and explore scientifically beyond what they do in the classroom. Earth & Space Physical Science Life Science Engineering/Invent ion

Discovery Room HOW Does It Work? Each class is assigned a day of the week as their “DR” Day Each teacher receives 8 passes to give to students Students with passes come during their 20 minute lunch recess that day If every student used the pass every time it was their turn, they would come once every 4 weeks

Discovery Room Special Relationships ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton Graduate School of Ed

Discovery Room Special Relationships SAGANet – a grassroots group of inter-disciplinary scientists looking to mentor non- scientists, including kids – started by Blue Marble Space including faculty from ASU CARL –(Cielo Astrobiology Research Learners) a group of Cielo families mentored by these scientists from March – May 2013 and 2014 Together they have created the 1 st and 2 nd Annual CARL SAGAN Science Fair at Cielo! Twice, students mentored by the SAGANet Scientists have presented their work in the Discovery Room to other parents, teachers, and their friends!

Discovery Room Invitation…to Sustainability It Would Be Cool If… We Could Sustain the DR at Cielo AND expand to other schools!
