6 easy steps to key the Cell Cycle

Step 1 IF the shape of the cell looks like a 8 or peanut Then its Telophase Else if it looks like a circle move to step 2

Step 2 IF you can see the nucleus and nucleolus Then its Interphase Else if can see chromosomes move on to step 3

Step 3 IF nucleus is breaking apart and forming chromosomes Then its Prophase Else if the chromosomes have formed completely move on to step 4

Step 4 IF the chromosomes look like an X and they are not lined up Then its Prophase Else if no move on to step 5

Step 5 IF the chromosomes are shaped like an X and lined up in the middle Then its Metaphase Else if not move on to step 6

Step 6 IF the chromatids look like V or l Then its Anaphase Else repeat all steps or use other knowledge

Do cells ever die? Apoptosis- programmed cell death Think of this as death due to old age. What happens to your car after a long time and 100,000 miles? What about cancer?

Cancer Cells Cancer- is the uncontrolled growth and division of cells Carcinogens- substances and agents that are known to cause cancer

Is there a cure for cancer? Sadly there is no absolute cure for cancer. However there are treatments for different kinds of cancer. For example Chemotherapy

Stem Cells Stem Cell- unspecialized cells that can develop into specialized cells
