OSHA  OSHA- Occupational Safety and Health Administration Requires all employers to provide a safe environment for their employees. Employers are responsible for safety training at the job site and that all employees are familiar with, and follow, OSHA regulations.

Work Behavior  In the shop the following behaviors are prohibited due to safety concerns: No running No horseplay No wrestling No pranks Exhibiting this type of behavior can cause your removal from the Agriculture Mechanics program.

Accidents

Personal Protective Equipment Safety Glasses- Offer minimum eye protection and are the first line of defense for the eyes. Safety Glasses must be worn at all times in the shop!!!!!!!!!!!  All safety glasses are to meet the ANSI Z87.1 requirements (American National Standards Institute)

Personal Protective Equipment  Welding Hoods- use special lenses to filter out ultra-violet rays from the welding processes. The shade strength is dependent on type of welding and intensity of light Oxyfuel- use Shade #5 Arc Welding- Depends on Amperage ○ Shade A to 200A ○ Shade A to 400A ○ Shade 14- Over 400A

Personal Protective Equipment All Clothing should be made of natural materials like cotton, wool or leather. Absolutely no Synthetics. Coveralls- are recommended to protect clothing and your body in the shop. Aprons- can be worn but are limited protection Shop Coats- are recommended and work well No shorts, skirts, dresses or ragged clothing are allowed

Personal Protective Equipment Footwear- leather shoes are recommended, closed toed shoes with backs are the least requirement. Absolutely, NO open toed shoes, flip flops, or high heels will be worn in the shop Hair Restraints- Hair must be tied back in the shop. Some accidents are caused by hair getting caught in the machines.

Personal Protective Equipment Gloves provide protection to the hands from heat and cold. Hard Hats- are needed when objects are being moved overhead or flying objects can be encountered Masks and Respirators- Should be worn to filter out dust, fumes and particles from the air

Personal Protective Equipment Ear Muffs and Ear Plugs- should be worn when operating equipment to protect your ears from the noise. Cal- OSHA has established that the maximum noise level is 90 (dB) for eight hours
