1 IEA HIA Task 24: WIND ENERGY AND HYDROGEN INTEGRATION 57 th Ex-Co Meeting Montecatini, Italy November th EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE Meeting, Montecatini (Italy) IEA HIA Task 24 “ Wind Energy and Hydrogen Integration” TASK REPORT Dr. Luis Correas Mr. Ismael Aso

2 IEA HIA Task 24: WIND ENERGY AND HYDROGEN INTEGRATION 57 th Ex-Co Meeting Montecatini, Italy November 2007 OBJECTIVES TASK 24: To explore in detail all possible issues (Technical, Economical, Social, Environmental, Market and Legal) related to hydrogen production using electrolysis with wind energy. To explore in detail possible applications for hydrogen produced by electrolysis using wind energy, with special emphasis on full wind & hydrogen integration by means of hydrogen storage and electrical conversion that balances the original wind energy production, allowing an approach to demand that closes the gap with conventional energies.

3 IEA HIA Task 24: WIND ENERGY AND HYDROGEN INTEGRATION 57 th Ex-Co Meeting Montecatini, Italy November 2007 PRIOR STEPS 53 rd IEA HIA ExCo meeting (Singapore, November 2005): The interest on starting a new task on “wind energy & hydrogen integration” is endorsed by the ExCo. The Spanish representative takes the lead. 54 th IEA HIA ExCo meeting (Lyon, June 2006): Dr. Luis Correas (Fundación Hidrógeno Aragón) and Mr. Fernando Tamayo (Gamesa Energía), presented a first draft of the new task. Project Definition Meeting (Brussels, 4th October 2006): attendance of 15 people from 7 countries. A revised draft has been released, with a matured work plan proposal. Pending confirmation of participation, especially from electrolyser manufacturers. 55 th IEA HIA ExCo meeting (Petten, November 2006): the Task is finally approved by the ExCo, and a kickoff meeting was made for spring 2007, in order to confirm participation. 56 th IEA HIA EXCo Meeting (Rapperswill, May 2007): First SAR showed and first Meeting, Canary Island October 2007
