Open APIs for Open Minds Nuria de Lama, Atos Research & Innovation Future Internet Public Private Partnership in EU FI-WARE: Overview

1 FI-PPP is a Collaborative programme

Building blocks for the Future Internet 2

FI-WARE serving usage areas 3

FI-WARE: positioning Europe towards opportunities derived from the digitalization of sectors A sustainable innovation ecosystem 4 A Core Platform that lowers the barriers for innovation Lower the Risk  Open, implementation driven Make it simpler  Simple yet powerful APIs

FI-WARE: positioning Europe towards opportunities derived from the digitalization of sectors A sustainable innovation ecosystem 5 A Core Platform that lowers the barriers for innovation Lower the Risk  Open, implementation driven Make it simpler  Simple yet powerful APIs

FI-WARE: Targeting developers needs WhatHow Security Enablers Ensuring Privacy, Security and Trust Business & Delivery Framework (revenue-share, cross-selling, …) Reach target users, monetize 6 Connect apps to the physical world Benefit from open innovation (crowd-sourcing, apps composition) Manage open data at large scale and transform it into knowledge Integration and Composition Enablers IoT-M2M Enablers Data/Context Enablers Built-in APIs & tools Take the most of infrastructures while keeping costs lower and under control Advanced Cloud Enablers access from everywhere, adapt to devices Enablers easing interface to Network and Devices Developer Community and Tools

Basic principles about FI-WARE GEs  GE specifications are open (public and royalty-free)  Any implementation of a Generic Enabler (GEI) is made up of a set of components which together supports a concrete set of Functions and APIs that are in compliance with the open specifications published for that GE  There might be multiple compliant implementations of a given GE  The FI-WARE project is delivering a reference implementation of FI-WARE GEs b ased upon results of previous R&D projects 7

Basic facts about FI-WARE GEs  On 31 st July 2013 more than 60 GEIs have made available (catalogue.fi-ware.eu)catalogue.fi-ware.eu  Terms and conditions for the usage of GEIs have been defined according to: Experimentation/testing within the FI-PPP FI-WARE Open Innovation Lab (FI-LAB) External availability  Most of GEIs are Open Source and all will be after the core platform extension  All GEIs have at least a large industry as GEI owner  Several strategic statements have been discussed directly to Mrs. Neelie Kroes 8

Take the most of infrastructures while keeping costs lower and under control Cloud Enablers

Managing, processing and analyzing private and open data at large scale Data /Context Enablers

Easing connection to the physical world IoT Chapter Enablers

Basic facts on FI-Lab  The FI-WARE Open Innovation Lab is a FI-WARE Instance. It: Provides Cloud hosting capabilities so third parties can run experimental Future Internet Applications and test themCloud hosting Make a selection of Generic Enablers implementations available for experimentation:Generic Enablers › Global accessible instances provided “as a Service” › Deployable as dedicated instances by application providers using Cloud blueprint management functions  Each FI-WARE Gei has a specific support tracker  Users can setup accounts, adhering to certain terms and conditions  FI-Lab launched on 3 rd September 2013  Developer contests: London 3-6 Sept 2013 at CampusParty beginning of 2014

What comes next  Ambitious FI-WARE promotion campaign (4,2 M€ investment during May 2013 – April 2014 period) Launch of the FI-WARE Open Innovation Lab at London Campus Party (September 3-8) London Campus Party Presence in 50 startup weekend events across Europe Hackathons, Development contests (700 K€ in awards)  100 M€ of funding for SMEs and Web entrepreneurs developing products on top of FI-WARE: to be canalized through incubators, accelerators, SME associations projects starting in 2014  Design and deployment of pan-European FI-WARE trial facility to be launched in April 2014  Proposal for Technology Foundation continuation phase (23 M€) 25
