In this lesson, you will: Learn the meaning of community. Identify the differences between a city, a town, and a suburb. Do a Four-Square writing activity with the information presented in this presentation.

What is a community? A community is where people live.

All communities are alike in several ways: They all have physical features like water.

All communities are alike in several ways: They all have different land forms: flat land, hills, or mountains.

The largest community is a city.

IN A CITY: There are many tall buildings. There are many people. The buildings and people are very close together. There are many places for people to live, work, and play together.

Another Kind of Community is a suburb.

A suburb: is a medium-size commnunity. is located near a large city. has people who travel to a city for work.

A town is another kind of community.

A town: is the smallest community. usually has farmland. has people who know each other well.
