ASSESSMENT Catshill First School And Nursery

ASSESSMENT Formative Assessment Summative Assessment Statutory Assessment

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT (ASSESSMENT FOR LEARNING – AFL)  Happens every day  In every classroom  In every lesson  Learning partners  Pot of Fairness  Questioning  Verbal feedback  Feedback through marking  Pupil responses

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT (CAN ALSO BE USED FORMATIVELY)  Happens every half term  Results are used to track progress  EYFS use the LA tracker  KS1 and 2 use Symphony Assessment System (SAS)  Results are entered into SIMs  Pupil Progress Meetings with HoS identify progress, focus is given to those who are slow or stuck and where interventions are needed

STATUTORY ASSESSMENTS  End of EYFS (Reception)  Prime Areas and Specific Areas  Emerging, Expected, Exceeding  Phonics Screening Check in Year 1  Meet the standard, Do not meet the standard  End of Key Stage 1 (Year 2)  Teacher Assessment  Tasks and tests in Reading, Writing, Maths  Level of attainment  (W, 1, 2c, 2b, 2a, 3)  2015 – 2016 changes  Baseline Test in September for Reception pupils  New tests for end of Key Stage 1

END OF YEAR ASSESSMENTS IN YEAR 1 Key Stage 1 and 2 Assessment model ( ) The new bands are linked to the year that pupils are in. So Year 1 pupils would be expected to be on Band 1. This band describes the content and the skills within the Year 1 curriculum. The end of year expectation is that a Year 1 pupil should have reached a secure understanding within their curriculum journey, thus receiving 1 Secure. It is worth remembering that the new national curriculum has greater challenge and raised expectations within it so pupils who were achieving the equivalent of a Level 1a in the old curriculum would not necessarily be considered a 1 Secure. The old levels and the new bands are not comparable. Also pupils progress at different speeds so some children may not yet be working at Band 1. Below band 1 – Pupils are not yet fully accessing the Year 1 curriculum and their teacher prepares an alternative curriculum when necessary so that they can catch up with skills that are required for Band 1. 1 Emerging – Pupils have accessed the curriculum for their age and show an emerging understanding of skills and concepts studied and are working towards age related expectations. 1 Developing - Pupils have accessed the curriculum for their age and are developing their understanding of skills and concepts studied and are working towards age related expectations. 1 Secure – Pupils have a secure understanding of the skills and concepts of the curriculum and are working at the expected standard for their age. 1 Mastery - Pupils have explored the curriculum at greater depth and built on the breadth of their knowledge and skills, showing mastery.

END OF YEAR ASSESSMENTS IN YEAR 3 Key Stage 1 and 2 Assessment model ( ) The new bands are linked to the year that pupils are in. So Year 3 pupils would be expected to be on Band 3. This band describes the content and the skills within the Year 3 curriculum. The end of year expectation is that a Year 3 pupil should have reached a secure understanding within their curriculum journey, thus receiving 3 Secure. It is worth remembering that the new national curriculum has greater challenge and raised expectations within it so pupils who were achieving the equivalent of a Level 3c/3b in the old curriculum would not necessarily be considered a 3 Secure. The old levels and the new bands are not comparable. Also pupils progress at different speeds so some children may not yet be working at Band 3. Below band 3 – Pupils are not yet fully accessing the Year 3 curriculum and their teacher prepares an alternative curriculum when necessary so that they can catch up with skills that are required for Band 3. 3 Emerging – Pupils have accessed the curriculum for their age and show an emerging understanding of skills and concepts studied and are working towards age related expectations. 3 Developing - Pupils have accessed the curriculum for their age and are developing their understanding of skills and concepts studied and are working towards age related expectations. 3 Secure – Pupils have a secure understanding of the skills and concepts of the curriculum and are working at the expected standard for their age. 3 Mastery - Pupils have explored the curriculum at greater depth and built on the breadth of their knowledge and skills, showing mastery.

END OF YEAR ASSESSMENTS IN YEAR 4 Key Stage 1 and 2 Assessment model ( ) The new bands are linked to the year that pupils are in. So Year 4 pupils would be expected to be on Band 4. This band describes the content and the skills within the Year 4 curriculum. The end of year expectation is that a Year 4 pupil should have reached a secure understanding within their curriculum journey, thus receiving 4 Secure. It is worth remembering that the new national curriculum has greater challenge and raised expectations within it so pupils who were achieving the equivalent of a Level 3a/4c in the old curriculum would not necessarily be considered a 4 Secure. The old levels and the new bands are not comparable. Also pupils progress at different speeds so some children may not yet be working at Band 4. Below band 4 – Pupils are not yet fully accessing the Year 4 curriculum and their teacher prepares an alternative curriculum when necessary so that they can catch up with skills that are required for Band 4. 4 Emerging – Pupils have accessed the curriculum for their age and show an emerging understanding of skills and concepts studied and are working towards age related expectations. 4 Developing - Pupils have accessed the curriculum for their age and are developing their understanding of skills and concepts studied and are working towards age related expectations. 4 Secure – Pupils have a secure understanding of the skills and concepts of the curriculum and are working at the expected standard for their age. 4 Mastery - Pupils have explored the curriculum at greater depth and built on the breadth of their knowledge and skills, showing mastery. The assessment information for Year 4 pupils is passed on to their new middle school as part of our transition process.
