Design Elements and Principles Devin Merrell Arshama Dehghan Brandon Navas

The Caution Sign  BALANCE  The sign displays horizontal symmetry in its form  EMPHASIS  The sign uses its bright yellow to add emphasis to its message  CONTRAST  There is also a great contrast between the negative and positive space (Positive being words and shapes)

The Doors  RHYTHM  There is a definite regular rhythm in the shapes of the door  UNITY  The doors consistently use darker colors on the parts that show greater depth (Value)  ECONOMY  The variety of textures is limited to one on the entire door

The Table  PROPORTION  The table and chairs are in perfect proportion to in form to that of a group of high school students  BALANCE  The table shows a balance of thousand of points located all over the table, but equal amounts in all spaces  CONTRAST  The sides of the table are darker than the top, showing contrast in value

Chess Board  EMPHASIS  There is a huge difference between black and white.  RHYTHM  All of the chess pieces are put in the same order on either side, this includes the board.  BALANCE  The chessboard shows Asymmetrical balance both vertically and horizontally

House  GRADATED  The windows get larger towards the bottom part of the house.  EMPHASIS  The roof has a red color that stands out from the house.  CONTRAST  There is a big difference between the bricks and the roof in this picture.

Dog  BALANCE  The dog is balanced comparing from his/her y axis.  CONTRAST  The dog’s stomach is lighter than his/her head.  EMPHASIS  There is emphasis put on the dog which is the positive space

Pills  UNITY  The pill shaped pills are equal horizontally and vertically.  EMPHASIS  The pills are given bright colors to indicate to the subconscious part of the brain that it could be toxic if consumed.  CONTRAST  There is a great contrast between colors on some pills

Camera Lens  BALANCE  The lines show a decreasing distance between each other as they come towards the center of this  BALANCE  The camera lens shows radial symmetry in its lines  CONTRAST  Bright red words are on the side showing importance
