Check the UAC Tertiary Entrance guide career plans - what are your career interest areas?

RoSA and Preliminary Year RosA Anytime after the completion of yr10 and before the HSC Yr11 Preliminary Year Completion of Preliminary Year courses A- E grade, awarded based on demonstration of achievement Course information will also appear on the Higher School Certificate

When can you receive a RoSA? Anytime a student leaves during Stage 6 – Year 11 & 12. Starts Year 12 but doesn’t finish – ( this will be recorded on the Record of Achievement. This is the cumulative Record of School Achievement.

What will it look like?

What does a student have to do to satisfactorily complete a Prelim/HSC course?  follow the course prescribed by the Board of Studies  achieve a minimum of 50% or all of the course outcomes  apply themselves with diligence and sustained effort to the set tasks provided in the course by the school  Maintain an attendance rate of at least 85%.

Teaching in the HSC is divided into two parts:  The Preliminary Year (Year 11)  The HSC Year (Year 12) The Preliminary course is taught over 3 school Terms; this means the HSC for 2017 will begin in Term Students wishing to leave during or at the completion of Yr 11 can apply to receive their RoSA Students who remain at school will continue to complete the Higher School Certificate.

NEW Yr 11 grades will appear on the HSC

Are there subjects I must study ? Prelim/HSC courses are divided into:  Board Developed Courses: these have an external exam at the end of Year 12 and count towards a University entrance (ATAR) All students must study 6 units of these, including English  Board Endorsed Courses: these subjects do not count towards University entrance (ATAR).They may or may not have an external examination.

For your HSC you will receive two marks for each course:  School assessment – based on assessment tasks and tests  Examination mark – based on the HSC examination Your HSC marks These marks indicate the standard you have reached in the course.

Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank Formerly called the UAI The ATAR is a number between 0 and It provides a measure of a student’s overall academic achievement in the HSC in relation to other students and it helps Universities rank applicants for selection. The ATAR is a RANK and not a MARK. It is calculated by the Universities in NSW. ATAR

A myth … I can only maximize my ATAR if I study hard subjects. So what is a hard subject? The talk is that chemistry, physics and extension mathematics are subjects that will give you a high ATAR ! WRONG What if you are not good at these subjects? We advise students to do subjects they are good at and that they will do well in. This is the only way to maximise your ATAR.

Further support Yr 10 Mentor teacher Subject teachers & Head Teachers Careers advisor : Mr Spetere Curriculum coordinator : Ms Dracopoulos Yr advisor : Ms Kurtulmus Counsellor: Mr Davies

Timetable Subject selection will be online. (collect your code) All students will receive their subject selections in Term 4 this year All students must select by Friday 14 th August 2015 See Ms Dracopoulos or Mr Spetere for assistance Good Luck!

We look forward to working with you in the Prelim and HSC years
