Monologue Long, uninterrupted speech made by one character example: Mark Antony’s funeral oration

Soliloquy Long speech made by one character alone on stage> The audience may learn the thoughts of character (thinking out loud) example> Mark Antony alone with Caesar’s body

Personification Giving human qualities to something not human - figurative language example> “The heart is thirsty for that noble pledge.”

Simile Comparison of two unlike things using “as, like, or than” example> “I am as constant as the Northern Star.”
