What do you know about a sentence? A sentence is a group of words that tell a whole idea. A sentence starts with a capital letter. A sentence ends with punctuation (like a period or question mark). A sentence has a naming part and an action part.

Now we are going to learn about word order. If words in a sentence are in the wrong order, you can’t understand the sentence. A sentence has to have the words in order to make sense.

Sat on Mom’s lap the cat. The words are out of order. The sentence doesn’t make sense.
