Research Why does pollution effect our health? Pollution can effect our bodies in many ways with either long- term/ short- term effects. different groups of people suffer from pollution in different ways. Different groups of people suffer from pollution in different ways. For example children and the elderly suffer more from the effects of pollution, But people with asthma, heart and lung disease may also suffer but only when the air is polluted. When an individual is harmed by pollution, it usually depends on the total exposure to the damaging chemicals. Allergies is another problem/ affect to many people It is the worst when you have allergies. You can not breath, your chest may hurt, you may even have irritated eyes. Most allergies come from pollen. Spring is when it starts to get warm out, and when it starts raining a lot. The rain doesn't help that much either. It just spreads it out even more and since it is time for the insects to come out bees are pollinating and spreading it everywhere when they travel. How do I know this you are probably ask? well Because I have bad allergies myself. They are very annoying and it feels like you are going to DIE! Here are some more side effect for allergies runny nose itchy eyes swollen tonsils sore throat closed air way bloody noses itchy bumps on skin ( allergic reaction)

Experiment/notes Experiment/asthma: How do you feel write now : I feel fine, wonderful, great ok Now you will breathe through a large straw and pinch nose for 20 seconds. how do you feel: I have a tight air way, I have a struggle to breath, my air way is closing. Now you will breath through a smaller straw. How do you feel? well it is very hard to breath my air ways are closing I feel stressed, and I am ready to drop dead, Hold your breath for as long as you can? I only lasted 11 seconds my heart is racing and pounding. It is hard to breathe I am very dizzy. I have heart burn and I have sharp pains.

Side Effects Example of short term effects: irritation to the eyes nose and throat upper respiratory infections( bronchitis and pneumonia) headaches nausea Allergic reactions. Important Fact In the great "Smog Disaster" in London in 1952, four thousand people died in a few days due to the high concentrations of pollution. Example of long term effects: chronic respiratory disease lung cancer heart disease Damage to the brain, nerves, liver, or kidneys. Important Fact ===It is estimated that half a million people die prematurely every year in the United States as a result of smoking cigarettes.

More people have asthma now because before no one had high efficiency doctors or scientists to find cures and medicine. There wasn’t much factories, cars, but now since all the new inventions, are coming out everyone wants to be in the spotlight and get everyone to buy their product, but they aren’t thinking before the do and it is causing bad things to us and the environment. Now after so many years they decide to listen. And realize what it is doing and how it is effecting us. Now and then How was the Earth different from back then up until now? Well there is a huge difference from back then and now. Early man hardly knew how to pollute; the only time they really did pollute was when they used fire. Today pollution is the worst thing that has ever happened to us human beings. It has affected our environment badly. Early man used mostly all natural resources for everything such as Medicine, eating, clothes, shelter, ect. Now and days we use the new technology, which is the worst for the environment and our health, but it is good for us. We still use natural resources today but we don't use them as often. Today we use factories and we sometimes over use our resources we have left to survive. Maybe we can make a change a do something helpful for the Earth. Let’s actually do something good.

Air quality Air Quality well to be quite honest we actually do not have any problems with air pollution, or our ozone. We are actually in the green zone which is good. Comparing new jersey to other states in our country we are doing very well. Our area is surprisingly a good place to live. But the following Utah, California, Idaho, Michigan, and Minnesota, are not doing so well and aren't such a good environment for young kids and asthmatics, people for diseases, and even us. I am very shocked that we have improved our air qualities.. Wow we have really made a big change. I am so proud of us. Keep up the good work New Jersey.

Jackie Joyner Athlete's that have asthma Jackie Joyner-Kersee (Olympic gold medalist in track and field) Six-time Olympic gold medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee is widely revered as an indomitable force in track and field. But throughout her career, she had a secret and keeping that secret nearly cost Joyner-Kersee her life. She had asthma! She was diagnosed with asthma when she was 18 during her freshman year at UCLA. Jackie refused to accept it-and hid it from her coaches and teammates. After being in and out the emergency room they finally came up with a cure and medications for her. She stated that "When I was treated with medication and released, I felt so good I couldn't believe I had a real problem," says Joyner- Kersee. "So I slacked off my medication, and developed bad habits." After ignoring the problem for over ten years, her asthma finally caught up with her in life. In 1993 Jackie suffered a near-fatal asthma attack. As quoted she says that. "I'll never forget the panic of being completely unable to breathe, no matter how hard I tried." This was a wakeup call (sign) that really turned her life around. She is now teaching kids all over the United States about asthma. What Jackie Joyner did to cope with her asthma was she stayed in shape, she decided to make a asthma plan for herself, she made sure before she did anything she got permission to do so and to make sure she let someone know.

Preventing/coping with asthma People with asthma will learn to avoid the things that trigger an attack, and will educate themselves about medicine and other asthma strategies. According to the new Guidelines for the Diagnosis and coping of Asthma, published by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute: Asthma is a chronic disease. It has to be cared for all the time - not just when symptoms are present. – The four parts of continually managing asthma are: Identify and minimize contact with asthma triggers. Understand and take medications as prescribed. Monitor asthma to recognize signs when it is getting worse. Know what to do when asthma gets worse. Working with a doctor/nurse/professional is the best way to take care of asthma. There are specific guidelines for children from infants to 4 years old, 5 to 11 years old, and 12 and older. The more information a person with asthma has, the better asthma can be controlled Without dealing or(coping) with your asthma can cause life threatening or serious damage to you and your body.

My story My baby cousin has very bad asthma, and it runs in the family on his dads side. He is only three. A couple of weeks ago he had an very bad asthma attack, and he had to be rushed to the hospital. he has to take a lot of medications and he has to take that breathing machine every to hours. A couple days later I asked my grandmother if it was okay for him to come outside, and she said no. I asked her why, and she explained to me that the air around us wasn't clean and that it could trigger another asthma attack. she told me that he wasn't ready to go back outside. His body was to weak. He wouldn't be able to go outside until he recovered. Isn't that something though. It is horrible that the things we have made for survival really isn't helping us by health means. Only in ways we need it.
