Importance of Effective Delegation for Managers Increases efficiency by assigning tasks that match employees’ skillsets Makes employees feel like their skills are being properly used Keeps projects on budget and on schedule
Why Effective Delegation is Effective for the Company Minimizes wasteful spending and allocation of resources Improves retaining rate of good employees Increases profit margins
What to Delegate? Work that you can easily train an employee to do Administrative duties (ie organizing business receipts, catering for meetings) Tasks that will be repeated again in the future Work that will improve an employee’s skills
What not to Delegate Delegation process Hiring new staff Mission critical tasks for the success of the company and can be handled by you
Delegation Process: Planning Determine skillsets of employees Define what tasks are to be delegated Assign tasks according to employees’ skillsets Determine what resources and funding will be needed
Delegation Process: Organizing Personally tell employees what tasks they will be delegated Ensure that delegated employees desire the same outcome as you do Provide upfront deadline information so employee schedules can be reviewed as necessary
