Design a Space

Table Of Contents Design brief Client profile The existing space Design Specifications Analysis of concept board

Design Brief I am redesigning a master bedroom for my clients and (age 40). The couple has three children and lives in the Sydney. This Sydney area prides itself on its natural beauty of parklands and spectacular water surroundings. The children are between the age of and both parents work. They are getting prepared to put their house on the market and so I have been asked to generate a much needed update in order to make the space more aesthetically pleasing whist remaining a practical setup to entice future buyers and hopefully add value to the residence.

I will design and produce a 3D model which will represent my clients space in response to their needs and wants. I will also take into account their budget and the time of 11 weeks in which I have to complete it by. Regular interviews with and will help me understand what they are looking for and if any changes need to me made. These will be recorded on a log sheet. I will collect my inspiration from magazines and research on the internet. In my design I will explore the use of textiles, furniture, paint and other materials.

Client Profile Name: and Age: My clients are happily married, parents of 3, working couple. They currently live in Sydney. and both work and are an interest in art and design. The couple are currently preparing to put their house on the market and so therefore need some updating in the rooms of the house in order to boost the value of the house. the decided maximum budget for this make over is $10,000. this will include the costs of subcontractors, painters, materials, furniture and electrical appliances. Their existing bedroom is lacking style, they both want to achieve a sophisticated but pretty environment to spend time in. Some influences are Laura Ashley and Ralph Lauren. They also want their redesigned bedroom to fit well with the style of the rest of the house. The home was built in 1888 and is a sandstone two story house and the interior has been renovated over the years and currently a French provincial style. Photo of clients

Design Specifications Considerations and Constraints Time – I have to consider the time of 11 weeks to completely finish my space. An action and time plan is necessary in order to arrange my time so I can meet the deadline. Size – I must take into account the size of my space hen designing. Function – my space has to function therefore people have to be able to wake through the space easily and all appliance must work as well. Budget – I have to consider the amount of money I have been given to spend ($10000) I have to construct a finance plan in order to manage my money responsibly. Purchase materials and appliances wisely and shop around for the best deals

Safety- the safety of the workers and clients is very important. I will ensure this by checking all workers are wearing safety equipment and before the completion of the space I will get a safety inspector in to check if it is not dangerous to the clients. Clients wants and needs – I am redesigning a space for my client not me so I have to cater for what they want and need. The arrangement of meetings with the client is very necessary in order to create a place that is idea for them. Materials - I have to consider the materials available and the materials that are still within the budget. This means I have to shop around and find the best deals for my client.

OPPORTUNITIES PERSONAL OPPORTUNITIES Skill Development – as this is my first time doing interior design I have a lot to learn and skills to develop. It is a great opportunity to lean about colour schemes, managing money through a finance plan and interacting with a client to create an ideal space for them using their needs and wants. I will also develop my skills on sketching and perspective drawings. I am interested in being an interior designer one day so this is a good opportunity to see if it is what I want to do. I will treat this as if it is real like and deal with all the ups and downs that are involved in this area of work. E.g. sub-contractors, deadlines, budgets etc. PRODUCT OPPORTUNITIES I was hired by the client to redesign their space in hoping that this updating would boost the value of their house as it is going on the market soon. This will mean that more use will become of the room as the environment is more aesthetic and functional.

Analysis Of Concept Board After researching all different colours and trends I have a variety to show my client and when I did it was obvious which ones they liked and which they disliked. They favored the cooler blues, greens and aquas in combinations with the crisp creamy whites over the bold reds and yellows. As for the trends boards my client did not like the eclectic bold look or the ultra modern look instead my client loved the classical, elegant French - modern style as not only was it beautiful and feminine but it fitted in with the rest of the house. I will keep all this in mind when designing my clients bedroom to ensure that they are happy and satisfied with the final product.
