Presentation transcript:

Changes in Attitudes…. Changes in Latitudes….

Measure College Readiness One-third of freshmen must take and pay for remedial courses in math and/or English at two- and four-year colleges before they can even begin their chosen course of study. Build Foundations 44% of students change schools at least once between kindergarten and the end of third grade. Accurately Compare Results Two-thirds of voters believe it is better for all states to have the same tests at each grade level in math and English so test scores can be compared across states rather than all states having “their own tests that reflect their own priorities.” Collectively the states in PARCC educate about 25 million students— GOALS For PARCC States:

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is a consortium of 23 states plus the U.S. Virgin Islands working together to develop a common set of K-12 assessments in English and math anchored in what it takes to be ready for college and careers. These new K-12 assessments will build a pathway to college and career readiness by the end of high school, mark students’ progress toward this goal from 3rd grade up, and provide teachers with timely information to inform instruction and provide student support.

The PARCC states include: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Tennessee.Alabama ArizonaArkansasColoradoDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaIllinois IndianaKentuckyLouisianaMaryland MassachusettsMississippiNew Jersey New MexicoNew YorkNorth Dakota OhioOklahomaPennsylvaniaRhode IslandTennessee

PARCC states have committed to building a K-12 assessment system that: Builds a pathway to college and career readiness for all students, Creates high-quality assessments that measure the full range of the Common Core State Standards, Supports educators in the classroom, Makes better use of technology in assessments, and Advances accountability at all levels.

6 Act as a major arm of states’ transition and implementation plans; Become a network of in-state experts on the CCSS and PARCC; Be state and peer leaders around CCSS and PARCC implementation; Build and expand the number of other educators who understand and take action and ownership for implementing the CCSS and PARCC Assessments Educator Leader Cadres
