 What are the major landforms? Appalachian mountains, low lands ( everglades)  How are the natural recourses of your region used today? Growing crops and raising animals. In the 1800s iron ore was found at red mountain in Alabama and is still producing iron ore.  What are the geographic features that make the region different from all the other regions? There are lots of rives and oceans. There is a lot of swamp area.  What is the elevation of your region? Most of Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, and South Carolina are 0 to 1,000 feet from sea level. Parts of Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky, are 1,000 to 5,000 feet from sea level. 3

 What is the severe weather found in your region? Hurricanes, tornados, and floods.  How is the severe weather in your region formed? Hurricanes are formed by water being temputures of 80 degrees or more and they are typically between 5to15 latitude north and south of the equator. Tornados are Formed by hot air and cold air mixing. Floods are formed by rivers over flowing.  What weather instruments are used to measure the severe weather in your region. Safire Simpson scale to measure hurricanes, the fujita scale is one of the scales to measure tornados. 2

What weather instruments are used to predict the severe weather in you region? Long range radar can predict severe weather. What is a safety plan for your severe weather in your region? You should always have a safety plan ready including caned food, flashlight, bottled water, and a first aid kit. What is the climate of your region? The southeast is cool for most of January most of the water that falls is cool rain. Most of the snow that falls is north. In the summer it is really hot. How does your regions climate affect the natural recourses and economy? They can grow crops longer and sell it to other states, and make money. 4

 What is the population density of your region? New Orleans 1,965, per square mile. Miami 12,139 charlotte 2,928  What impacts the population density of your region. Warm weather, oceans, big cities all impact the population density of the region by creating jobs.  How has the population density effected how people live, work, and use transportation in your region? It affects transportation by more traffic. It affects work by providing more jobs in big city's.  How does the population density effect the use of natural recourses? In The big city there is lots of pollution and it can kill plants and trees.

 How are natural recourses used to make a living? You can grow crops all year round because of the warm weather you can also sell them to other states and make money.  How and why industry has changed in your region over time? There were lots of trading posts on the fall line. They also grew tobacco. Now you can sell things in stores.  How does the population density impact the economy? There are lots of people to buy and sell things to and from. They make more money in the cities with all the people. 5

 Who were early settlers in New Orleans- The first Europeans to see New Orleans were followers of Hernando Cortez, a Spanish soldier who died on the Mississippi River in 1543  Charlotte- The Europeans that first settled had a difficult time and faced many obstacles while building.  Miami-Pedro Menendez de Aviles and his men settled in Miami for a mission from Spain.  How did the early settlers use the natural recourses? They used the water ( lakes, rivers, and oceans) to travel and fish.  Why was the region settled? It was settled because of the rich soil to grow crops.  What are the cultures/lifestyles of your region? One life style is to travel by boat place to place. 6
