What minerals make a high end watch so expensive? by: Daniel and Dane

Rolex datejust pearl master 39mm The price of this watch is $290,000 according to greenstones Birmingham. the Minerals on the outside are 18k gold, Set with a blue to green gradient of 48 baguette- cut sapphires. A Scratch- resistant sapphire watch face and a cyclops lens over the date to enlarge it. info "Datejust Pearlmaster 39." Rolex. N.p., n.d. Web. 24 Mar

Should the Rolex Datejust Pearl Master 39mm be this much money?

No Baguette-cut sapphires = 624 US Dollars- there are 48 Baguette-cut sapphires on the watch witch equals $29, Karat Gold Price per ounce = US Dollars- all the ounces of gold that the rolex has on it the price would equal $28, the rolex has 12 carats of diamonds in it so it equals- $16,000 If the watch was sold for the minerals not the handling manufacturing it would only cost $74, that would mean there was $215, to put together some minerals.

How does that compare to a low end watch?

Citizen Chrono Time A-T The price of this price $750. Minerals on the outside are Rose Gold-Tone Stainless Steel, Sapphire Crystal. info "Citizen Citizen Eco-Drive Chrono Time A-T BY E Atomic Timekeeping." Citizen Watch English US. N.p., n.d. Web. 25 Mar

Should the Citizen Chrono Time A-T be this much?

No, if we were going by the price of materials on the outside of the watch. Rose Gold-Tone Stainless Steel is around $100 Sapphire Crystal is worth around $300 Although the cost of the minerals used would only equal $400 the price for assembling the watch and packaging would be included plus they need to make money off the watch so including all those elements the watch would be worth it in our opinion.

Sub-question options What materials are in the face of the watch? What minerals make up the interior of the watch (ex. the gears and batteries)? What minerals on a high end watch make it scratch resistant?

We chose, “What minerals on a high end watch make it scratch resistant?”. According to some websites, (ex. knowledge/ watch-crystals.html), quartz crystals, plexiglass, K1 Mineral, and Sapphire Crystal make high end watches scratch resistant. On less expensive watches they do not have quartz, plexiglass, K1 Mineral, and Sapphire Crystal but they have a hard coating that makes the watch less likely to be scratched. knowledge/ watch-crystals.html

Video on scratch resistents on K1 Mineral and Sapphire Crystal

What is the best scratch resistant mineral for watches? K1 Mineral and Sapphire Crystal are the best ones to use in high end watches. These minerals are not just scratch resistant but shatter resistant.

Wrap-up ACTION: Call Greenstones Birmingham about the scratch resistances on the watches we researched watches we research. OBSTICALS: One obstacle we came in contact with is we couldn't find all the prices and what minerals for the Rolex datejust pearl master 39 same with the Citizen Chrono Time A-T. We also couldn't find what minerals they use in the high end watches to make it scratch resistant on the Rolex and Citizen AIM: Find the minerals in the high end watch that make it so expensive and one in a low end watch? -First question. Find whatminerals on a high end watch make it scratch resistant? -Sub Question.
