Presentation transcript:

Full Time Employment A full time employee generally works five days a week. Employment is often permanent. The amount of hours worked by the average full time employee has fallen from around 42 hours a week 30 years ago to 37 hours a week now – so more leisure time. The government regards anyone who works over 35 hours a week as full time.

Part-time Employment Part-time working is simply less than fulltime hours, perhaps just a few hours a week, perhaps 20 hours or more. Part-time workers often find that if things are quiet for the business their hours are cut, but on the other hand during busy periods working hours increase. Many employees are happy to work part time as hours may fit with family demands e.g. working during school hours only. Many pert-time workers are looking for full time jobs

Job Sharing Job sharing means two people share the same job, maybe on a fifty-fifty split. Job sharing often lets professional workers continue in employment, when otherwise they may have had to take a career break. The best example of this happens with new mothers, who through job sharing can combine work with bringing up children. Job sharing may last a number of years

Temporary Work Temporary employees are taken on for a specific period of time, for example 6 months to cover maternity leave. The time period can be extended, and possibly made permanent. Some temporary work is arranged through Employment Agencies. Employment agencies provide workers to employers, these workers are often with specific skills, such as secretarial workers, drivers, building labourers and so on.
