Those animals seem to know that something is about to happen. S + seem to V→It seems that S + V 似乎 … He seems to know a lot about music. →It seems that he knows a lot about music. be about to = be going to 即將;正要 Please sit down. The movie is about to start.

One woman’s pet turtle suddenly laid an egg. It had never done that before. suddenly = all at once = all of a sudden 突然 注意下列各字的動詞三態及現在分詞 說謊 lie lied lied lying 躺 lie lay lain lying 放置;產卵 lay laid laid laying 同一句中,過去完成式表示先發生的事,過去 簡單式表示後發生的事。  I lost the book I had bought yesterday.  I didn’t know him, because I had never seen him before.

The next day there was a quake. After the quake, the turtle ate its egg! A man woke up hungry one night. hungry 當主詞補語修飾 a man. 類似的用法有:  After a day’s work, he often comes home tired.  I’m glad to know that they have reached there safe and sound.

He got up to get something to eat. get up : rise to =in order to; so as to 為了;以便 表示「目的」,有時可置於句首用來強調。  He has to get up early to catch the first bus.  To go to a nice school, every student studies day and night. 不定詞當形容詞,用來修飾前面的名詞。  He isn’t a man to tell lies.  It is time to go to bed.

Animals seem to sense the danger. In one place, the birds flew away from the water. Cows left their fields near the sea. They moved to the hills. Soon the fields were flooded. It seems that animals feel the danger of a coming earthquake. Back
