 Our experience of video is influenced and altered by the accompanying sounds.  The earliest motion pictures were “silent films’ meaning that there was no recording of voices or sound effects on the actual set.  This was far too complicated given the technology of the day.  WDA4&feature=related WDA4&feature=related

 People would watch these movies in a cinema.  The Cinema owners would hire musicians – piano or organ – to play live music as patrons were watching the film.  Charlie Chaplin was a well known actor in the silent film era.

 In the late 1920’s new technology allowed film makers to add sound to video.  Now movies could contain sound effects, music, and dialogue.  rs rs

 Another momentous breakthrough in cinematography was the introduction of colour to the film.  This was achieved through 3 strip Technicolor film and it was extremely expensive.  The Wizard of Oz is one of the first notable large scale motion pictures to be produced in colour.  8uF4 8uF4
