Our school is one of the oldest schools in town. It was founded in 1885.

At the time it was a purely vocational training institution..

Today, thanks to gradual reforms, our school provides a complete educational curriculum, besides training in vocational skills. The I.P.S.I.A. “Galileo Galilei” has been in this new, large building since 1972.

It is located in the very centre of the town. There is a detached branch in the small town of Campofranco, in the province of Caltanissetta. It is located in the very centre of the town. There is a detached branch in the small town of Campofranco, in the province of Caltanissetta.

ELECTRICITY ELECTRONICS ADVERTISING and GRAPHIC DESIGN MECHANICS and THERMAL SYSTEMS The students can choose from the following vocational courses: SPECIALIZED COURSES

TIMETABLE and STUDY PLAN As far as the organisation of the study plan is concerned, according to the new reform, our school vocational path is divided into: a first two year course a second two-year course and a final course  By completing the initial two years, students fulfill compulsory education. The weekly timetable is 32 hours. The lesson hours are divided into six days a week. Each lesson lasts 60 minutes.

CURRICULUM During the first two-year cycle, teaching includes subjects that are common to all courses and different subjects depending on the branch chosen. During the initial two years, the subjects that are common to all sections take up a total of 20 hours which become 15 hours in the last three years. There are also specific subjects for each specialisation covering 12 hours a week during the first two years and 17 hours in the third and fourth year. A considerable part of the curriculum is devoted to laboratory activities in specialised fields. During the final year, our school system foresees a training period at local companies, also within European Union. First two years 20 hours for subjects common to all courses 12 hours for specific subjects for each specialization Third and fourth year 15 hours for general subjects common to all courses 17 devoted to specific subjects for each specialization Fifth year 15 hours for subjects common to all courses 15 hours devoted to specific subjects for each specialization 2 hours for school-work alternance

After the first three years, the students who pass a specific exam get a vocational qualification, recognised, nationally and within Europe. At this point, they can decide whether to  access the working world or  enrol in post-qualification two year courses to obtain the upper secondary education diploma ; If they choose this last option, at the end of the fifth year, they have to pass the State Final exam in order to become TECNICI, technicians, in their field of specialization and get the school leaving qualification called diploma. This certificate enables them to enter University or to access higher technical education and training (– IFTS) TITLES OF QUALIFICATION

Our Institute is equipped with different laboratories Electronics labs

Mechanics and Thermal labs

Graphics and Advertising Labs

Since our students mainly belong to socially and economically disadvantages families and are at a high risk of dropping out of school, we provide financial aids and contributions. For example, grants are awarded to the best students with priority to low income families; besides grants, we also give some rewards such as pen drives or laptops to the most successful student of each class. Another important recent initiative concerns textbooks. Our school buys all textbooks which are lent to students who will have to give them back at the end of the school year. The same text-books will be passed on to new pupils the following year.
