The Syllabus: Requirements  Class attendance is required. If you miss a class, let me know ahead of time  you must provide the documented reason. You are responsible for bringing yourself up-to-date on class material and assignments You cannot miss more than 4 classes without documentation  Penalty: drop of the grade (ex from A to B, from B to C, ect.)  Reading material before class is required Read material once before class and again after class

Course Content This course is designed for everyone who wants to learn more about the creation of effective websites that are attractive and user friendly. The course covers: The Internet and the Web: Search Engines, Clearinghouses, Portals HTML and CSS Dreamweaver Photoshop/Bridge Web Page Construction Safety and security online: spam, viruses, phishing, information theft, etc.

Course Content (cont.) RSS (Really Simple Syndication) and Podcasting. Introduction to HCI Human Perception Collecting the Specifications Web page Design Organizing the Content Visual Aspects Navigation Prototyping Evaluation Colors and Typography Global Accessibility

Course prerequisites None The course is intended to be an introduction to basic concepts and principles that can be further explored at an advanced level. Students need not have any previous knowledge of the Internet or web design.

Course objectives  At all times the course emphasis is more practical than technical. The objectives of this course are to: improve the ability to use Internet introduce the broad variety of Internet tools extend the knowledge of communication tools that are available on the net understand the dangers that the Internet can bring into your life if it is not used appropriately analyze information on the net use HTML and CSS

Course objectives (cont.) receive a hands-on experience in web interface design learn the fundamental concepts of HCI and the metaphors of communication between human and computer develop interfaces that are user friendly identify a bad interface from a good one learn how to display information appropriately perform real life web design thanks to a service learning project.

The Exams  2 Mid Term Exams and 1 Final Exam 100 points each  No Make-up exams Except in extreme case and only if I have been notified prior the exam has been issued  Homework and Projects must be returned by the deadline Late penalty: 3 points per day

The Grade  Participation 5%  Attendance5%  Homework and Projects40%  Exam 1 and 230%  Final Exam 20%  Check the syllabus for the grading scale
