School Food Ambassadors – what does it mean for you?

National Learning Seminars: What action has been taken.. SFA log in function SFA Newsletter A national events calendar Downloadable list of schools signed up to the million meals campaign Research in your region search mechanism Million Meals Partner Pack Conference calls

The Role of the School Food Ambassador Drive Change Locally Be a driving force for local change Utilise the National Good Practice Network Work with other ambassadors to establish and school food group

The Role of the School Food Ambassador Communicate Register online Contribute via online discussion forum Contribute good practice stories Share useful resources Disseminate information to partners

The Role of the School Food Ambassador Share Good Practice Vital to developing the good practice network Engage in Consultation and Information Gathering

A few questions.. Do you know who your other local ambassadors are? Do you meet as a group Have you registered on the website? How do you share information locally? What do you need to do?

How is it working for you? Is the Ambassador network working for you? Please discuss the things that are working best and the things that need to be improved …. Come to a consensus on: What is working best … What needs most improvement/development …. What additional support would you like from the network? The SFT provides information directly to ambassadors and through the website, is there anything else we need to do put in place REGIONALLY to ensure the most effective communication at a local level? How often do you want regional network events? How do you want them structured and what topics do you want to discuss?

Is the Ambassador network working for you? What is working: Information gathering Networking Sharing good practice Website

Is the Ambassador network working for you? What needs to be improved: Ambassador need to know what information has been sent to schools and when – e.g. ed to us Communcation seems to be about promotion of campaigns and events rather than the practical issues of our role and what we are expected to do We would like some clarity on function, scope and linkages of the organisational structure of the SFT. We are confused as to who does what, who is responsible for what Meetings to involve more than just ambassadors Million meals info difficult to access Poster campaigns – please consult about the type of food, portion sizes, also represent own advice on added fat ( butter on jacket potatoes

What additional support would you like from the network? Advice about school resources not produced by the SFT – value for money and age groups suitable for Benefit to talk to other people Benefit that this session has been set up - no input A development plan – perhaps an annual plan identifying the journey and direction of travel Sharing ideas of good practice through the website Directory of names for contacting

What else needs to be put in place to aid communication at a local level? Regular updates and additions to the mapping exercise Who in each area is on the regional groups so that we can get in touch Feedback at each meeting on what the other groups are discussing – just a couple of bullet points Add infant feeding/BF group to the list Nothing – CG role does this effectively Need dates of regional events well in advance – even a year so we can diarise to ensure attendance Regional subsection of the website – time to meet for specific sub groups eg nutritionists

How often do you want network events? At least annually perhaps 2 per year Regional meetings may be more useful than national ones Regional meetings are needed to share information – 3 x over year Twice a year Termly

What structure and what topics? Updates on new initiatives New information Sharing good practice Need advanced notice of upcoming events, campaigns National/regional trends Practical advice on how we can make a difference Allow time for districts to update one another
