APAN Logistical Networking Session Report Hyun-chul Kim (Fri)

Logistical Networking Session n (Thu) Early Morning, AM 7:30~9:00 n 20~25 attendees n 4 speakers : 1 video-playback speech and 3 remote speakers from SG, CZ and US n 4-party video conference using Polycom MCU did work perfectly without any problems throughout the session n Program n Introduction to Logistical Networking (video playback), by Micah Beck n Data Management for Internet Backplane Protocol, by Tang Ming/NTU n DiDas: Distributed Data Storage, by Ludek Matyska/CESNET (Czech) n Web100 and Logistical Networking, by Jim Ferguson/NCSA

Remarks n n Recently, the concerns and/or necessities of Distributed storage resource for more efficient and faster delivery of large dataset on a high bandwidth network are rapidly growing. u u E.g., Grid people. u u Some APIs and applications as well as their codes are available (IBP, GridFTP, …) u u Experimental systems are being deployed world wide. n n We may have to re-activate a storage-related WG in APAN? u u In the context of Network/Transport Layer technology support for high-bandwidth applications. u u Some PhD students and professors (APAN members) are doing projects and writing papers in this area. draw a synergy effect u u Currently weve got a list of 12 members who expressed their interests in this area. Will setup a mailing list for this group and initiate a discussion on topics/issues that can/should be covered by the next meeting. u u Planning to have a BoF and Technical Session on Logistical Networking at the next Honolulu meeting, jointly with I2 Network Storage WG members.
