INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Confidential Current TransPAC Network Two OC-48 connections between the US and Asia OC-48 POS connection between Tokyo and Los Angeles OC-48 connection delivered as a gigabit Ethernet connection between Tokyo and Chicago. Note1 – To minimize costs, the Chicago OC-48 uses the protect circuit for the Los Angeles OC-48.

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Confidential Current TransPAC Network Topology

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Confidential TransPAC capacity growth

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Confidential TransPAC Network Availability

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Confidential Traffic Control on TransPAC All traffic control is applied in Japan via IP access lists. Initially, access to the network was allowed on a project-by-project basis by the APAN Resource Allocation Committee. As bandwidth prices dropped and TransPAC bandwidth increased, access was allowed on an institution-by-institution basis, still using the APAN Resource Allocation Committee.

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Confidential TransPAC Traffic Growth November March 1999 (note: graph moves leftward) March November 2001 November October 2003 (Tokyo - Seattle Circuit) Current Daily Snapshot (December 22nd 2003)

INDIANAUNIVERSITYINDIANAUNIVERSITY Confidential Futures How should TransPAC evolve over the next 5 years to better meet the needs of the Asia-Pacific and the SEA Cluster in particular?
