2 TWAREN New Architecture TWAREN is the only national academic and research backbone in Taiwan that provides layer one optical lightpaths and layer three routing and peerings. The lease of circuit is going to be due in August More demands of integrating optical lightpaths with IP services. Packets are transmitted over Lightpaths between GigaPOP and core nodes Multi-point communication among core nodes is enabled by MPLS/VPLS technology in order to save the bandwidth

16 Conclusions In this new architecture, IP and Optical network are integrated into one. With MPLS+L2 switches in core nodes, multi- point VLAN service is achieved. MPLS LSPs are configured with fast-reroute option for link protection. For lightpaths among GigaPOP and core node, the automatic protection are configured. When core node fails, manual re-route of lightpath can be done.
