EuPA- EC Education Committee (EC) working plan

EuPA Educational Activities 2006 We have created an Education Committee We have defined the EuPA EC Missions and the Education Objectives. We have organized a working plan for

EuPA Educational Activities for Courses (Basic, Advanced and Summer School) Workshops Courses at EuPA meetings Laboratory Networking Tutorials Educational Material at EuPA web site

Development of EuPA Basic Courses Four different basic courses  Gel-based Protein Analysis  Chromatography-based Protein Analysis  Mass Spectrometry for Proteomics  Bioinformatics for Proteomics The details of these courses can be found at

Development of EuPA Basic Courses The courses should be set up with the assistance of different experts in their application areas and technologies and afterwards these courses should be introduced in other European countries. Sharing the same Educational material is promoted and will be available on the EuPA web site. The deadline for organizing and scheduling these courses for 2007 and 2008 is December The first program should start in March 2007.

EuPA Basic Courses 2006  How to Analyse 2-DE Gels and Publishing 2D-data A ProteoRED-INB-EuPA Course. Madrid, Spain, May 2006  Proteomics in Life Sciences. Procura-EuPA Course. Braga, Portugal, 27 June-1 July

EuPA Advanced Courses  Advanced Proteomics Technologies (Garry Corthals and Anne Rokka) Turku, Finland, 8-12 May 2006 Madrid, 2007 Edinburgh, 1st quarter of 2007  Phosphoproteomics and PTMs (Ole Jensen)  MS-based quantitative Proteomics (Ole Jensen)  DMMC Course: Advanced Practical Proteomics. DMMC (Dublin Molecular Medicine Centre; Proposed dates: March 2007, supported by the Science Foundation Ireland.  Other Proposals

EuPA Courses More proteomics courses running in other European laboratories that wish to have supported by the EuPA and any proposals for basic and advanced courses are wellcome The guidelines for EuPA courses will be at the EuPA web site

Proteomics Summer School Proteomic Summer School held in Bressanone (Italy) and organized by Max-Planck-Institute for Biophysical Chemistry (Göttingen) and the Medizinisches Proteom-Center (Bochum). This specific course has been supported by the German government for the last three years.

Financial Support  The National Proteomics Societies or governments of the different European Countries.  Marie Curie Conference and Training Courses. Deadline 17th of May Seventh Framework Program  Other European Institutions.

Workshops Organize or support Proteomics Workshops focused on timely subjects. Phosphoproteomics Workshop. Juan Pablo Albar. Madrid New proposals or workshops that have already planned and wish to have supported by the EuPA are welcomed.

EuPA Courses at Scientific Meetings The Education Committee has proposed a EuPA course before the 1st EuPA meeting that will be in Valencia, Spain (10-14th February, 2007) HOW TO SHARE OUR RESULTS (P. James and G. Corthals) (1) Saving data in a common format, (2) Knowledge extraction & display from protein databases, (3) (open source) LIMS for Proteomics studies, (4) Integration of data from protein & metabolite or protein & microarrays studies, (5) Updates from PeptideAtlas, ProteinAtlas and the newly launched CellAtlas project, (6) Quantitation from 2-DE and isotope labelling and (7) Validation of MS/MS data.

Laboratory Networking Letter addressed to the EuPA General Council Members. Call for participation on proteomics networking/human mobility Proteomics host laboratory application form Proteomics Trainee Aplication Form

What is the Tutorial Program? The tutorial program is aimed at providing enough material for a Masters level year long course. It consists of two parts: 1. Core techniques and basic concepts This is a series of initially 50 commissioned articles with an associated PowerPoint show to aid teaching of the basic concepts in Proteomics. 2. Applied Proteomics This a series of articles to illustrate the use of proteomics and to highlight specific areas

Tutorial Articles 1. These are Peer-reviewed articles on the basic principles underlying proteomics as well as examples of their use in modern biological studies. 2. This format allows us to revisit and update methods and procedures every two years. 3. They will be accompanied by graphic-orientated teaching slides in PowerPoint format. 4. These will be made available for all and teachers will be encouraged to download them and translate into the native language of the country.

How will it be implemented? The peer reviewed tutorials will be published in the Journal of Proteome Research, Molecular and Cellular Proteomics and Proteomics. The journals will invite the contributions and they will be peer-reviewed. The Powerpoint presentations will be evaluated by the Education committee. The accompanying PowerPoint teaching aids will be made freely available from the Journals web-sites as well as the EuPA site.
