The Roommate Resource Service…

Provides… The Parent Education Module Educating parents on the typical university response to a roommate conflict and how they can help their student develop positive roommate relationships. Great on-line information for parents to access over the summer prior to students moving to campus…send parents a link and access information and they are ready to go…or use when issues arise. The Roommate Resource Service

Educational topics include the obvious… Why are roommate experiences important? How can parents support the development of positive roommate relationships? The roles staff play in managing roommate issues Assertive, non-assertive, and aggressive communication The Roommate agreement process Tips for parents to help students when experiencing conflict Typical university response The Roommate Resource Service

and also the not so obvious… That roommate conflicts sometimes start over ridiculous situations. That sometimes students tell their parents one thing and the university another. The need to find a balance between the rights of all roommates who are involved. That sometimes parents can become too involved in the conflict. That roommate perceptions on the conflict are sometimes very different. That sometimes the best solution to a roommate conflict is moving out of the situation. The Roommate Resource Service

Provides… The Student Education Module High end flash animation and video training module that educates students on how to live with a roommate. Includes notification of completion to university administration. Great information presented in an engaging way. Send students a link and access information over the summer and have them complete the module prior to moving onto campus…or have RAs assign this module to students when they move into the halls. In the student training module, hosts Kelly and Ed take viewers on an educational journey to help them learn how to live successfully with a roommate, through the use of video clips, voice over, and education via flash animation. Videos and education include… Communication, consideration, respect and diversity Establishing and managing roommate agreements Confrontation, respect, perspectives, drawing conclusions, involving others, utilizing the RA as a resource The Roommate Resource Service

Provides… The Roommate Relationship Assessment Tool On-line assessments for use by RAs to determine issues in a roommate relationship. Provides on-line reports and tips for responding with link to mediation training module. Use proactively to obtain information on potential roommate hot spots prior to a conflict, or as conflicts arise, use to obtain an honest assessment of the issues in the roommate conflict.
